An introduction to concepts of program planning for health education in the community. Program development, implementation, and evaluation of currently functioning community health education programs.

Application of the principles of nutrition as they relate to the problems of different community groups at the local, national, and international level using nutritional assessment, program planning, education, and program evaluation techniques. Introduction to the public health approach to nutrition. Supervised field observations to study nutrition services in varied communities.
Application and interpretation of basic descriptive and inferential statistical methods for the analysis of public health and other health-related data.
After taking this course students should:
Be familiar with how inferences are made using data from research studies
Be able to understand and interpret statistical results of nutrition and health research studies
Be able to perform basic descriptive and inferential statistics using a calculator, spreadsheet software and statistics software.

Principles and methods of nutritional epidemiology. Analysis and interpretation of local, national, and global food and nutrition survey tools and data. Critical investigation of the population-level contribution of food and nutrition to racial and ethnic inequities in health and diet-related disease.
Examination of experimental design as applied to nutrition research, including intervention, observational, survey, and animal models. Development of research topics; methods of data collection; interpretation and presentation of results; ethical considerations; application of principles for development of research proposals and evaluation of the nutrition literature. (Prerequisites: advanced coursework in Nutrition and a course in Biostatistics)
This syllabus includes OER materials and college policies for a fully online course that takes a comprehensive look at global health issues. In this course, the assessment of health issues are analyzed from various perspectives including geographic, ethnic, religious, human rights, socioeconomic, social, cultural, and political influences. Students learn about global environmental causes and consequences of infectious diseases, major diseases, mental illness, natural disasters, malnutrition, drug and alcohol addiction, violence and injuries.
This course will introduce students to health promotion and disease prevention strategies that are a part of the US healthcare system. Students will gain an appreciation of common determinants of health as well as risk factors.

Each case study includes the patient narrative or story that models the best practice (at the time of publishing) in healthcare settings. As information technology advancements become more integral to health care, the demand for health care professionals who can employ and utilize health data is increasing. Health Informatics plays a critical role in enhancing the quality of consumer care, reducing health care costs and providing healthcare access in rural areas. Health Informatics specialty areas include electronic health records, health care insurance billing, telemedicine, and health care delivery systems, including laboratory and public health.The standards for the Health Informatics pathway and related courses apply to occupations and functions in health information systems and the delivery of healthcare. The standards specify the knowledge and skills common to occupations in this pathway. Students participating in a solid Health Informatics program, can expect to understand patient privacy laws, health care legal and policy issues, front and back office data systems, health information insurance billing, troubleshooting and problem solving, and terminology. Additionally, students will learn different clinical applications in medicine, nursing, pharmacology, laboratory, and public health.
This course is a collaborative offering of Sana, Partners in Health, and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). This course offers an overview of healthcare, health information technology, and health information management systems. The focus is on the role and responsibilities of entry-level health IT specialists in each phase of the health information management systems lifecycle. The curriculum is aligned to the new Certified Associate in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CAHIMS) certification administered by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. This certificate is designed for students who have previous experience in IT or healthcare and it is designed to serve as a pathway into health IT careers.

The purpose of this course is for adults to advance their personal health. People generally have a good sense about what to do to be healthy, but actually doing it consistently is another matter. Because of this challenge, behavior change theory is applied throughout this course to engage students and evoke health-related change. By the end of it, we want students to be healthier than they were at the start and we want them to have an understanding of how to continue advancing their health throughout their lives.
