This article provides an overview of the current trends in information and communication technology affecting library services and recommends how, because of these trends, library and information science (LIS) curricula should turn an inquisitive, interdisciplinary eye toward the field of educational technology. In those years, the Western was invented. Detective fiction was invented. The novel itself was reinvented. And poetry in the hands of Walt Whitman went off in a direction it has maintained to this day.
